Classic Towing Saves Money with Fleet Tracking Technology

If there was an easy way to make your business more efficient, improve customer service, save fuel costs, better manage employees and prevent moonlighting, would you be interested?

Classic Towing in Naperville, IL was able to accomplish all of these goals simply by installing state-of-the-art GPS technology with Track What Matters.

George Garbis, the owner of Classic Towing, said he originally purchased the GPS system that was integrated with Garmin devices to prevent theft and help lost drivers better find their destinations. But since installing the system over two years ago, they realized several benefits that they didn’t anticipate: fuel costs dropped almost 20 percent, their customer satisfaction improved, and they became 75 percent more efficient.

SAVING FUEL COSTS

Garbis didn’t want his employees to react to the GPS technology as a micro-manager so he devised a system that would allow them to engage with the technology and contribute to the overall efficiency of the company.

How did he do this?

By offering bonuses tied to fuel savings, “I know exactly how much fuel we’re saving because I build a weekly report and share that with the employees. We pay out bonuses accordingly, “said Garbis. “Our drivers take the shortest routes to their destination and control their speeds on the highway. If they get lost, they can dispatch and we can route directions right to their Garmin device on the dashboard. All they have to do is click the button.”

With five trucks in his fleet, Garbis says that he is saving as much as $1500 per month on fuel alone when the gas is running high at the pump.

OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY

Because Garbis knows the locations of his vehicles at any time, he can route the closest one in proximity. “If a call comes in, I can dispatch the closest driver. This both saves on fuel and increases our customer service. ”

And saving on fuel costs isn’t the only benefit. Classic Towing is able to give an accurate ETA to customers so they are able to provide better customer service and satisfaction. Anyone that’s had to wait on a tow truck will know instantly what an improvement this is!

As for managing employee behavior, Garbis says that he hasn’t had any trouble with moonlighting, and because of the bonus system, the drivers love the technology. “I didn’t want it to seem like we were monitoring their every move, so I positioned this as a positive. The drivers share in the benefits of making the company more efficient and so they proactively get involved. It’s a win-win all the way around,” he said.
