Tracking Devices

Matching a GPS tracking device to your fleet is as important as the quality of the tracking devices.  A great tracking device for the wrong purpose is of no use to anyone.

Our customer representatives are specially trained to learn about your business allowing them to match the your specific tracking needs to the right GPS tracking devices.

Real Time Tracking Devices

Installed Tracking Device

Installed Tracking Device

Real time tracking devices are devices that are installed in fleet vehicles and produce very granular tracking data.  With these devices, the device is wired into vehicle power.  The device, once installed, will produce location information on a regular basis and will allow the fleet manager or owner to know where the vehicle is at any time.  Also, the device produces historical information that can be seen on the TrackWhatMatters.com application.  This information is available for a full year in history.

Real time tracking also allows the fleet manager to also see speed, direction, idle time for the day, mileage by state, and other optional information.  These tracking devices can also show you where and when a door was opened and closed or when a wench or PTO was operated.  The devices are simple to install with only 3 wires in most cases.

Asset Tracking Devices

Asset tracking devices perform a critical role in GPS tracking for fleets with non-powered assets.  The typical uses for the Asset Tracking Devices are trailers, containers, and fixed assets without constant power.  These devices have been placed on solar panels, collection bins, garbage containers, and more.  Essentially, any thing of value that could be lost or stolen yet does not have power, could be the right fit for this small device.  Measuring only 6″ x 3″ x 3/4″, the device has the footprint of a dollar bill, is nondescript, and easy to hide.  These tracking devices have a battery life of 3 years when locating once a day. Other scenarios can extend or shorten battery life.

These tracking devices also bring the added benefit of being able to locate under cover.  Traditional trailer tracking devices were limited in that they were 100% satellite in communication.  While this does provide benefit in places without cellular coverage, the devices are blind and mute when they are under any kind of substantial cover.  The Track What Matters Asset Tracking Device will use GPS location data by default, but if that doesn’t work due to its location (indoors, under cover), the unit will collect cell tower data allowing the tracking service to trilaterate the tracking devices current location.  Give us a call to learn more about these amazing devices.  800-293-0420

Hybrid Tracking Devices

Powered Asset Tracking Device

Powered Asset Tracking Device

Hybrid tracking devices provide the best of both the Real Time Tracking Devices and the Asset Tracking Devices.  This device is truly flexible in that you can get locates when the unit has power and when it does not.  The perfect application for this device is trailers.  Carriers that use owner-operates to haul their cargo have historically had quite a hurdle getting private contractors to install GPS tracking devices in their personal tractors.  But, in most cases, the logistics company or manufacturing company owns or leases its own trailers.

The Hybrid Tracking Devices (or Powered Asset Tracker), will act like the battery powered Asset Tracking Device when the trailer is not tethered.  However, when the trailer is tethered, this tracking device will give frequent updates (up to every 4 minutes).  Thus, carriers can get near real time tracking from their trailers.  This allows carriers to use GPS tracking data to determine whether their loads will be on time or might be late.

Portable Tracking Devices

Portable tracking devices are battery powered tracking devices used for real time tracking of people, assets, or vehicles.  These devices are about the size of a pager and can be worn on a belt, stuck in a trunk, or attached to a piece of equipment.  Theses are similar to the Asset Tracking Devices in that they are battery powered.  However, they differ in that the battery life is only for a few days (tracking scenarios will affect this).  Also, they differ in that this tracking device is designed to locate at differing intervals (less than a minute if required).

These devices are a great fit for specific scenarios where installed devices are not appropriate.
